Support For Lay Leadership

The Lay Leadership Support Team is excited to offer this opportunity to Board chairs and members, M&P chairs and members, Trustees, Worship committees, Finance committees, Outreach committees and other volunteers that participate in the church.

This is a free gathering on May 28 and 29 at St. Andrew's United Church in Nanaimo preceding the Annual General Meeting.

What is Lay Leadership?

The term Lay Leader includes those who are in a key volunteer role that is vital to the like and work of each community of faith, such as:

  • Chairs of Governing Body
  • Elected Representatives to Regional Council
  • Licensed Lay Worship Leaders (LLWL)
  • Ministry & Personnel Committee members
  • Treasurers
  • Trustees
  • Sacraments Elders

Training and support for the vital work you do

Sage Online Learning for United Church Leaders is a one-stop website that hosts FREE trainings, information, and resources specific to the vital work done by Lay Leaders in Pacific Mountain Region's communities of faith.

Organized by topic, each Module (course) on the Sage platform has been uniquely produced for congregational Lay Leaders within the Pacific Mountain Region - though Leaders from any region would benefit from Sage's offerings.

LLST is responsible for support of lay leadership. The Team Members are:

Lay Leadership Working Group

LLWG is responsible for implementing policies, accountability, and licensing. The Working Group Members are:

  • Marina Lecian, Pastoral Relations Coordinator (Staff)
  • On-call interviewers, as necessary

Supporting Lay Leadership at the Regional Level

The Lay Leadership Support Team and Working Group are part of the Pastoral Relations Council.

These teams are made up of volunteers from throughout the region and one regional council staff person, Gail Miller Regional Minister Staff.

It is the cascading committee that provides support and information to Lay Leaders and Licensed Lay Worship Leaders in the Pacific Mountain Regional Council.

We oversee and coordinate the Region’s responsibility to provide ongoing leadership training for lay leaders, regarding the areas of:

  • building the capacity of lay leaders who are called to serve in communities of faith
  • training, educating, and resourcing lay leaders
  • supporting the growth of theologically literate and spiritually grounded lay leaders
  • creating networks of support for lay leaders in similar roles across the region
  • working with Licensed Lay Worship Leaders (LLWL) and Sacraments Elders by:
    • recommending action on licensing, providing ongoing support/oversight of Licensed Lay Worship Leaders,
    • providing training and assessment of Sacraments Elders
    • maintaining lists, supporting networks and clusters related to LLWL and Sacraments Elders
    • maintaining the list of Licensed Lay Worship Leaders (LLWL) and Sacraments Elders.
