A Welcome Message from President Rev. Dr. Simon LeSieur

Greetings!

People often ask me why I’m part of the United Church of Canada. The answer has to do with home. Ever since I stumbled onto the way of Jesus at a small United Church camp in rural Ontario, I’ve spent time learning from different expressions of the Christian tradition. Amongst them, the United Church has been the one expression in which I’ve consistently found myself truly at home – this sense that there is room for all of who I am as I am.

I love that we are a people willing to ask big questions. I love that we are determined in our exploration of what life there is to be found beneath the stones left unturned by other traditions. And I love that we prophetically push into the rigidity that so often stifles the movement of God’s good and holy Spirit – all of this grounded, somewhere, somehow, in the way of Jesus. I am convinced that who we are and what we stand for – a love that is wide because it is deep – is so important and so needed in this cultural moment.

I look forward to serving in the role of President of the Pacific Mountain Region for the next two years, and hearing more broadly the stories that make this such a vibrant place to do ministry. I hope to amplify our voice where I can, to encourage where encouragement is needed, and to continue to pray for the flourishing of the work of your heart.

I look forward to crossing paths. Until then, may you tread lightly, bless abundantly, and may you love unashamedly.

Grace + peace,

The Rev. Dr. Simon LeSieur
