Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or who might be in a crisis. The course is designed for adults who have frequent contact with young people, for example, parents and guardians, youth ministers and clergy, teachers and other school staff, sports coaches, and youth workers.

You will be certified* in the Mental Health First Aid course of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, with the bonus of taking the program with other people of faith and having space to connect this learning to our experience in Christian community. All are welcome to register.

Course participants will learn how to

• recognize signs that a young person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or who might be in a mental health or substance use crisis
• have conversations that encourage a young person to – talk about their mental well-being – discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being – reach out to these supports
• assist in a mental health or substance use crisis situation
• check in with one’s own mental well-being and take action as needed

This course is completed in three parts. *Your completion of all three parts is required for certification.

• Saturday April 2, 2022, 1:30-5:30pm Pacific / 2:30-6:30pm Mountain: Online Group Session One
• Sunday April 10, 2022, 1:30-5:30pm Pacific / 2:30-6:30pm Mountain: Online Group Session Two

Dr Julie Clayton is a certified MHFA teacher, a highly skilled counsellor, and holds a Master of Divinity and years of experience as a congregational pastor. Hosted by Allison Rennie from LeaderShift and Pamela Evans from First Third Ministry.
