Sept 29 Town Hall and Sept 30 Office Closure to Honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

“As we come together for our first Truth and Reconciliation Day let us think of what we are going to do for actions as communities of faith.  What are our projects and what are we doing as a community of faith to begin our journey of reconciliation?  Since last year, what have we done to implement the Lenten series, how are we implementing the wisdom of the elders from our June discussions.  Many of our communities have been searching what and how do we respond to the unmarked graves in many residential schools across the country.  How are we moved to action?  What action are we taking?  What are we moved to do as a community of faith?”

As we move into this space,

  • Are we aware of the United Church calls to the church? Do we know this comes from the United Church Indigenous Elders?  How are we implementing the calls to the United Church?
  • How are we implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the calls to action? The TRC calls to action are very prescriptive for our work in this space.  How are we applying this work and concepts that the church has been accepting since 2014?
  • How are we implementing United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People? What articles are we considering as communities of faith?

As we embark on the initial day of Truth and Reconciliation, how are we going to move forward as a community of faith.  What is our church doing and how are we reaching out to Indigenous communities?

We have much work to do as a church and some of us are moving forward and now we are starting a pilgrimage.  How do we reconcile and work with one another?  We may need further training and dialogue to begin.  How we prepare for this journey may be part of our community vision and what our calling is for our church.  As we move forward where are we on our individual journeys?  How do we begin and how do we walk together?  As we move forward let us search our hearts, our calling and scripture for moving forward so that we may be one together.

John 10:16 NSRV

“I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.  I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice.  So there will be one flock, one shepherd.”
