Relief Efforts for Lytton Fire Survivors

Tk’emlúps te SecweÌ“pemc has generously opened their hearts and space to welcome all evacuees to their community at Moccasin Square Gardens on the reserve. They have said the best way we can help them is by providing gift cards. Kamloops United Church is collecting money for cards for gas, food and clothing. If you would like to contribute, you can donate here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/16702 (Canada Helps handles Kamloops United Church donations). Chose ‘5. General’ and  mark “Fire Relief” in the notes. Kamloops United Church will then purchase gift cards for food or fuel, to immediately help those in need. Thank you.

We hold the communities of Lytton, Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc and Kamloops in our prayers.  We received this note from Rev Michael Caveney of Kamloops United Church, and give thanks for the response and presence Kamloops United Church offers, and pray for their leaders, staff and community.

Lots of people walking in off the street to talk about the Residential School/collecting bottled water to give out to those living on the streets…it was 46.5 degrees downtown one day/and now we are figuring out how we as a faith community should respond if major areas of Kamloops are evacuated. (Juniper Ridge being evacuated last week was a major wake up call). Thank goodness we have excellent staff. We have also been giving coupons to our Thrift Shop to families from Lytton.

We are responding to help the evacuees. We are working in partnership with the local band and responding to their requests. The above is the announcement we have been distributing, please share. We have also been giving coupons to our Thrift Shop to families from Lytton.

Here is a photo one of our council members, C Sparkles, took from her porch in Kamloops of the fire last week.

Thank you again for your thoughts….

Blessings,
Michael
