Office Assistant Job Description

Richmond United Church has a vacancy for a part time church office assistant.


Position Description

This person will serve as directed by the office administrator and the minister. They will be supported by, and will be accountable to the Ministry and Personnel Committee of the Richmond United Church.


Duties and Responsibilities

+ Prepare the church Sunday bulletin (formatting and printing) and the weekly church announcements

+ Responds to or process all mail, emails and telephone calls

+ Maintain an orderly and clean office and filing system

+ Collection of mail from stand-alone box

+ General duties re attending to the tidiness of the church internal premises

+ General light bookkeeping

+ Manage office supplies and keep track of inventory

+ May be required to greet/receive people at the door (when other staff are present)


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Must be professional, proactive, self-motivated with an ability to take direction

+ Must be able to work at a fast pace and stick to weekly deadlines

+ Must be courteous and tactful dealing with parishioners and church tenants

+ Must exercise appropriate judgement in dealing with sensitive and personal issues

+ Must be able to prioritize concerns without much guidance and take charge when supervisors are unavailable

+ Must be comfortable with a wide range of individuals.

+ Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

+ Must have excellent organizational skills as well as high attention to details

+ Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook

+ Must be able to manage database such as Microsoft Access

+ Possessing a working knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) is desirable


Education and Experience

+ High school diploma or GED equivalent required (in English)

+At least two years clerical or administrative experience


Work Hours

+Initially, the work hours will be four per week on Thursdays from 9.30am to 1.30pm

The probation period is the initial four months.

+We anticipate that this position will expand to six hours per week.



The hourly payment is $20.00. Payment is made at the end of each month.
